Japanese Décor: How to Style Your Home
Whether it is the bamboo home décor or pretty accessories that got you hooked, if you are interested in Japanese décor and want to bring the look into your own home, there are a few tips that you are going to find very helpful to you here.
Color
One of the most major and obvious aspects of Japanese décor is color. Japanese interiors generally use neutral, natural colors to provide a simple background. You don’t want to use overly bright and bold colors in your home, and if you do want to add a bit of brightness you should keep it minimal, such as on accessories.
When a statement is made in a Japanese interior, it is usually through a single strong exclamation of color or predominant texture.
Furnishings
Obviously another one of the most important aspects to bringing Japanese décor into your home involves furnishings. This can often be the most difficult part of all, because furnishings are major parts of any home and not only that but are usually the most expensive pieces as well.
Furnishings in Japanese décor tend to be very minimalist, and again are usually not that bright in color. They also are often multi-functional, and for instance a futon is used for sitting as well as sleeping and is one of the most commonly used Japanese style pieces.
Antiques
There are certain Japanese décor pieces, including antiques or reproductions that you should include if you are going for the Japanese look in your home. A hibachi for instance will be an important purchase here. It is not a small tabletop grill as the western world defines it, and instead is a finely crafted, portable fireplace that is used in older homes to heat and boil water for tea.
You can use them as display boxes, bases for end tables, or even tuck them away or cover with a pretty patterned wrap. Tenigui, rectangular cloths which were once used as headbands, are pretty and you can do a lot of things with them to incorporate them into your design. Sake kegs are also great and you can use them as planters, end tables, or lamp bases, depending on their size and what you are looking for.
The Japanese look is very exotic and beautiful, and by adding the right pieces to your home, whether you need enough to redo your entire house or just a few pieces to spice things up, you will be doing a wonderful thing.
