Okay, so you want a new kitchen.  Where on earth do you start?

It’s a big task that always ends up taking longer than you think.  To remodel kitchen successfully, you need to consider your needs before you start thinking about where to put the oven.  Now is your chance to have your cake and eat it – or in this case, have your kitchen exactly the way you want it to be.

Remodel Kitchen From The Ground Up

For a successful remodel, kitchen designs need to be sketched out to see which one would work best.  Consider where all the power points and main items will be – the sink is usually under the window, for example, but if you move it from its current location you will need to bear in mind that there will be additional plumbing costs to add into the overall cost of the remodel.  Kitchen magazines can be an excellent source of ideas if you are a little stumped and need some inspiration.

A remodel kitchen plan should ideally consist of a floor plan, with all the desired units sketched in according to scale.  It’s a good idea to sketch out your perfect kitchen - you may not be able to afford every single thing you include, but it will give you something to aim for.  You can then decide how much to compromise on before spending any hard cash.

What You Want Or What You Need?

The perfect kitchen is a marriage between having things you need and those more luxurious gadgets and items that you’ve always wanted.  Again, kitchen magazines usually display many of the newest items and gadgets that you might like to consider including in your kitchen, so buy several of these and see what you like the look of.

Consider also how many appliances you would like to hide.  Not everyone wants a big stainless steel fridge freezer staring back at them when they walk into their new kitchen; if an understated fridge and freezer hidden separately behind two matching kitchen doors is a better option for you, you will need to allocate extra room to accommodate them.

Any kind of remodel, kitchen included, takes time to plan and execute properly.  Consider all your options and see what you can afford before diving in the deep end.  With proper planning, your remodel should turn out to be just what your kitchen needed.
