There Is No Average Cost To Remodel A Kitchen
If you’ve ever wondered, “What’s the average cost to remodel a kitchen?”, don’t. It’s the same as wondering how many angels dance on the head of a pin, or if no one is around when a tree falls alone in a forest, will anyone care? It’s a philosophical conundrum more than anything else. Why is it? Because no two kitchen remodeling projects are alike. Kitchen remodeling projects vary so astonishingly in size and complexity that you are better off asking, “How much is this gonna cost for my kitchen?”
The Variables
The various factors in order to determine the average cost to remodel a kitchen – namely, yours – are these:
- Size of your kitchen
- What needs replacing (as opposed to what you want replaced)
- The materials you use
- If you do it yourself or hire a contractor
Any contractor should be able to give you a free written estimate to do what you need or want to be done. Don’t take the first offer you get. Get a few. In that way, you can see right away what the average cost of remodeling a kitchen is.
Take It To The Bank
One of the reasons you want a written estimate is if you want to get a loan in order to remodel your kitchen. The bank, credit union or loaning institution will need to see the estimate. While you’re there, you can ask them what is the average cost to remodel a kitchen. To them, it will be at least four or five figures. Anything less than that and they may not be interested in giving you a loan.
Often, your bank, credit union or lending institution will be able to recommend contractors they are happy to do business with. In England, it is expected that a homeowner get a list of builders the bank has done good business with upon request. Your bank might have different policies. It doesn’t hurt to ask.
Keep Perspective
When ever you make choices on materials or fixtures, always keep in mind what the average cost to remodel a kitchen is. But that’s an unknown quanity, you may argue. RIGHT! I reply. Since you don’t have an ironclad average cost to remodel a kitchen floating around in the periodic table of elements, don’t screw around and spend lavishly. Only get done what you need and not always what you want.
